Oil, ink and forty years of looking sideways at the world.
Oleksandr Zinovyev is a Ukrainian painter and cartoonist who lives and works in Santa Barbara, California. He trained under established artists and graduated in 1989 from art college with a degree in design. He began exhibiting in 1986 and held his first solo exhibition in 1992.
He has entered international cartoon competitions continuously since 1987. In 1995 he showed solo at the Punkt and Art-Café galleries in Zielona Góra, Poland. His work is held in galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. Between 2011 and 2013 he founded and ran three editions of the international cartoon competition “Fun in Vasylivka Style”, which became one of the calling cards of Vasylivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
He now paints the Pacific coast and the light of Santa Barbara alongside the still lifes and the geometry his figures keep dissolving into.
